BY DEB NELMS, BOARD COACH FOR WIB

How many times have you been asked what your skills, differentiators or abilities are and found the need to pause before you answer? Or have responded with, "I have strong people skills", "I'm a collaborator" and "I digest and assimilate large amounts of information". VIRTUAL EVENT SPEAKER & VIP MEMBER ELIZABETH GHAFFARI

Why is your July 17th Virtual Event, "Presenting Yourself: Reflecting Your Worth in Your Presentation Skills" an important one to participate in? Women benefit by bringing their 'best game' forward. When you are learning any skill, there are old habits you need to abandon and new habits you need to acquire. This presentation will discuss ways that women can become more comfortable in front of small, medium and large groups.

Do you find that VIP Membership with WIB also helps strengthen the way a board bound women presents herself? VIP Membership provides an abundance of opportunities to listen to speakers. The Virtual Events are a great way to 'tap the wisdom that surrounds you'.

Elizabeth is the author of three books. Her latest, "Tapping the Wisdom That Surrounds You: Mentorship and Women", will be released Fall 2014 and includes a chapter on WIB CEO & Founder Sheila Ronning. You can pre-order the book here.

3 WAYS TO BE AN EFFECTIVE BOARD MEMBER

1.Prepare extensively before meetings. You must learn about the company, its history, competitors and industry-trends until you understand and can ask intelligent questions. Veteran directors say they like to be the best-informed person in the room because they gain confidence in themselves and respect from other directors.

2.Get along with your fellow board members. Your sincere interest in knowing your fellow directors as trusted colleagues will help immensely when tense topics come up in the boardroom.

3.Speak up, selectively. Find the balance between speaking too often and not enough. Speak only when you have something valuable to add, and always when you are concerned.
